Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician Profession: Sterile Processing Tech Specialty: Sterile Processing Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours (Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm) Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Preferred Sterile Processing Technician certification Certifications: Preferred certifications related to the specialty Must-Have: High School Education/GED or equivalent required Description: Responsible for processing and sterilizing surgical and hospital instruments and equipment. Assembles surgical instrument sets and trays. Distributes patient care supplies and equipment. Decontaminates and processes instruments, including compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts. Sterilizes instruments, trays, basins, and similar items with appropriate exposure and dry times. Prepares instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary. Maintains a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping of counters, sinks, and exterior surfaces of sterilization equipment. Cleans sterilization chambers on a weekly basis. Assists with room turnover and terminal cleaning of surgical suites, and daily duties as required. Assists with picking supplies and instruments for upcoming cases. Performs daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including test packs and biological indicators. Evaluates instruments for function and safety when reprocessing. Provides reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments, including those for emergency, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and radiology. Identifies and evaluates loaner instruments prior to processing. Records loaner information in a log for tracking purposes. Maintains biological incubator and log, and evaluates biological test results. Provides technical services and assistance in surgery, recovery, outpatient procedures, and central sterilization. Works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and reports to the perioperative services manager. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Commitment to the safety and well-being of all associates and patients is essential. Compliance with vaccination requirements is expected.
