Job Title: Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) Manager Profession: Surgical Services Specialty: Sterile Processing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (07:00 - 19:30) Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of sterile processing experience. License: Not required. Certifications: CBSPD and/or CRCST preferred. Must-Have: Prior supervisory experience required. Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems is preferred. Description: The Sterile Processing Manager is responsible for strategic, operational, and regulatory oversight of the Sterile Processing Department. This role ensures the safe, timely, and compliant reprocessing of surgical instruments and medical devices to support procedural areas. The Manager leads daily operations, staffing, quality assurance, infection prevention practices, and continuous process improvement. The position involves managing adherence to AAMI, AORN, CDC, and Joint Commission standards. This role includes direct supervision of SPD operations, including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case cart management, and distribution. Key responsibilities include ensuring consistent workflow to meet operational demands and minimizing delays. The Manager will develop and implement staff education, competencies, certification support, and cross-training programs. Monitoring quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives is essential. The Manager will also oversee biological monitoring and documentation accuracy related to sterilization. The role involves collaboration with perioperative services, infection prevention, risk management, and supply chain. Participation in interdisciplinary committees and performance review meetings is required. Key functions include auditing tray assembly accuracy and inventory management. The position mandates monitoring adherence to infection control, safety, and universal precautions across the department. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment is crucial. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are needed. Knowledge of sterilization principles, microbiology, and infection prevention practices is essential.
