Job Title: Biomedical Equipment Technician Profession: Biomedical Equipment Technician Specialty: Biomedical Equipment Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8 hours Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 4 years in biomedical instrumentation repair License: AAMI certification required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Strong knowledge of biomedical, anesthesia, and patient-care related instrumentation Description: Under general supervision, provides and performs electrical safety testing, calibration, troubleshooting, performance assurance testing, and emergency repairs for biomedical, laboratory, and associated medical instrumentation. Orders supplies and parts for equipment and stock inventory. Maintains an accurate computer database of equipment, including departmental wide inventory, repair data, and retired equipment. Assists in the establishment of performance assurance guidelines as part of a comprehensive electrical safety program. Participates in an on-call rotation, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge of standards, regulations, and safety requirements is necessary. Strong knowledge of biomedical, anesthesia, and patient-care related instrumentation, and detailed understanding of hemodynamic monitoring is essential. Familiarity with electrical/electronic and medical terminology is required. Ability to repair, maintain, test, and calibrate various biomedical, anesthesia, and patient-care related instrumentation is essential. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary. Ability to maintain detailed records and prepare data into statistical reports is important. Proficiency with standard software programs used in healthcare, as well as web browsers, patient registration systems, and electronic medical records, is required. Essential Responsibilities / Duties: Troubleshoots critical care related instrumentation in critical care or surgical areas while in use. Diagnoses the source of operational failure of patient related equipment. Determines if the operation of the device is correct and provides recommendations for improved use. Conducts complete electrical safety testing and inspections on all relevant equipment. Provides required periodic calibration of equipment to ensure proper operating function. Conducts complete performance assurance testing. Performs complete performance maintenance procedures as required. Performs emergency and routine repairs on instrumentation. Compiles and updates equipment inventory, repairs data, and retired equipment. Assists in the formation of performance assurance forms. Participates in the evaluation of biomedical instrumentation under supervision. Attends various committees as directed. Follows established infection control and safety procedures. Adheres to the organization's RESPECT attributes.
