Registered Nurse - Medical / Surgical

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for our high acuity Medical/Surgical unit. The nurse will be working with a diverse patient population, including those requiring post-surgical care, trauma cases, and patients with complex needs such as gunshot wounds and those who are quadriplegic or paraplegic.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a fast-paced surgical and trauma environment.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and effective communication during handoffs.
• Monitor patient conditions and administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Utilize EPIC for documentation and management of patient data.
• Work closely with Nursing Support Technicians and other staff to maintain an optimal patient-to-nurse ratio.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a Medical/Surgical or related specialty.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records is mandatory.
• Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to staffing needs; block scheduling is not available.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Patient Population and Support Staff

The patient population includes surgical cases, trauma victims, and patients with significant disabilities. The unit provides support from Nursing Support Technicians, phlebotomists, and a unit secretary during night shifts.

Patient Care Ratio

The Nurse-Patient ratio is maintained at 5:1 to ensure comprehensive and focused patient care.
