Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Surgical Acute night shift position requiring at least 1 year of post-op experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Surgical Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
• 63-bed unit with 49 private rooms and 9 observation beds
• Patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with potential increases to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights when needed
• Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical cases requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• Some patients on telemetry monitored via Philips monitors at a central station, bedside RNs do not read strips
• No ventilator management required, though CPAP and high flow are used, with RNs able to place patients on CPAP
• No drip titration required, aside from Heparin as a set rate drip
• PCT support available with ratios of 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning and ambulation
• Dedicated charge RNs on each shift who do not take patient assignments, plus 24/7 house supervisor coverage
• 12-hour night shifts from 1930-0730
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Rotating holiday coverage every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Travelers float first to units with a comparable experience level, with ICU RNs floating to general units taking a team of 3 patients
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Post-op patient care experience and strong critical thinking skills required
• Good bedside manner and team player mentality expected
• Negative drug screen for all panels required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients including wound care and IV therapy
• Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour shift focused on Epic and professional orientation with the unit educator
• Scrubs of any color are permitted
• Local candidates are accepted, with a reduced local rate applying to those with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
