Description:
The Operating Room Assistant is responsible for assisting the nursing staff in receiving, caring for, and transporting patients to and from the perioperative region.
This role involves cleaning and maintaining patient care equipment and providing supplies and equipment as needed.
The assistant actively participates in quality control and preventive maintenance activities.
Participation in equipment and supply in-services, evaluations, and staff meetings is expected.
All designated assignments must be completed accurately and efficiently.
Contributing positively to the unit and department is essential.
Disposing of trash and linen according to protocols is required.
Recommendations for containing costs in assigned areas should be identified and shared.
Maintaining effective working relationships with staff, managers, physicians, patients, and families is crucial.
The assistant may perform patient care functions according to established policies and procedures, which may include shave preps, non-invasive monitoring, specimen collection, ambulating, and repositioning patients.
Receiving instruments and equipment from assigned areas and cleaning them according to protocol is part of the responsibilities.
Participation in monitoring and documenting quality improvement issues is encouraged.
The assistant may join unit, department, or hospital committees as requested.
Housekeeping and stocking duties must be performed to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Aseptic techniques should be practiced according to established standards of care and infection control policies.
Prioritization of work using available resources is necessary.
Proactive use of problem-solving processes to identify, prevent, or resolve inter- and intradepartmental issues is important.
Responding to requests and distributing items in a timely manner is required.
