Job Summary
The ICU Surgical (Intensive Care Unit Surgical) position is located in a busy, Level 1 Trauma hospital. This role involves providing critical care for patients undergoing complex surgeries such as liver and kidney transplants, vascular procedures, ENT surgeries for cancer, abdominal surgeries, mastectomies, and other intensive interventions. The position requires a nurse with experience in a high-acuity environment, capable of managing a variety of critical conditions with a focus on early recognition and effective escalation of patient needs.

Job Details

• Position Description: The ICU Surgical RN cares for critically ill patients in a Level 1 Trauma ICU, working in a fast-paced, highly monitored environment with a patient ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity.
• Required Qualifications: Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, NIHSS. Education, licensure, and minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience.
• Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
• Additional Information: The unit involves managing ventilators, chest tubes, surgical drains, and titratable drips such as vasopressors and sedatives. RNs are expected to perform early recognition of patient condition changes, communication, and escalation. Float rotation may be required, including coverage of other ICUs within the hospital. Orientation comprises 2 shifts, with 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Must be willing to submit license and certifications; BSN preferred.
