Job Title: Surgical Technician-NCA Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 months Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (0630-1900) with call shifts Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Surgical Tech experience License: BLS Certifications: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) Must-Have: BLS, CST Description: The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the healthcare team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus for this position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment, as well as assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures. This individual administers care and uses equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonate to geriatric. The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties, effectively prioritize, and plan and problem-solve due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures. This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. The Surgical Technician must have basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique, and apply this knowledge in all patient and family interactions. This role includes displaying aseptic technique in performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes. Responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation is essential. The Surgical Technician must consistently perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure. Demonstrating knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice is required.
