Job Title: Surgical Technician-NCA Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 630a-5p with call (either 5p-7p or 5p-9p once per week, up to one overnight call per six-week schedule, and one weekend per six-week schedule) Experience: Two years of Surgical Tech experience License: BLS, CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) Certifications: BLS, CST Must-Have: - Knowledge of aseptic techniques - Experience in surgical instrumentation preparation - Ability to handle surgical equipment - Skills in assisting surgeons - Familiarity with medical terminology - Understanding of the metric system - Strong problem-solving skills - Effective planning and prioritization abilities Description: The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the healthcare team in delivering patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus of this position is on the preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment, as well as assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures. This individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonate through geriatric. The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties, effectively prioritize, and effectively plan and problem-solve due to the changing nature of work situations during surgical procedures. This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. The Surgical Technician must also possess basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique, applying this knowledge in all patient and family interactions. Responsibilities include displaying aseptic technique in the performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes. Demonstrates responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation. Consistently performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure. Demonstrates knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice.
