Our typical case load in the 7-room unit includes:
General surgeries, primarily hernias, appendectomies, cholecystectomies, Nissen fundoplications, PEG placements, and GI procedures.
Colorectal surgeries involving open and laparoscopic bowel resections, with some robotic procedures.
Gynecological surgeries consisting of oncological and benign open and laparoscopic surgeries, including D&C, hysteroscopies, LEEP procedures, and tubal ligations.
Urology procedures include cystoscopy, stent placements, TURB, TURP, percutaneous procedures, HoLEP, as well as open, laparoscopic, and robotic nephrectomies and cystectomies.
Breast surgeries encompassing biopsies and mastectomies, including those with reconstruction.
Occasional eye procedures three times a month, including plastic surgeries, cataracts, and vitrectomies.
Brachytherapy assistance with device insertion is primarily conducted by the radiation oncology team.
Plastic surgeries are typically in conjunction with breast or affirmation procedures.
Uro-Gynecology surgeries include sling placements and anterior-posterior repairs.
Robotic surgeries are largely in urology and gynecology, with some bariatric cases, and occasionally two rooms are dedicated to robotic surgeries.
The unit operates Monday to Friday and typically concludes by 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
If the unit finishes early, staff may float to the main operating room or assist if there is a staffing shortage.
The main operating room conducts orthopedic, vascular, ENT, general oncology, transplant, neuro, thoracic, cardiac, and trauma surgeries.
Obligations include two weekend call shifts per contract, with no additional weekend requirements.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
