Job Title: Surgical Technologist Certified Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable shifts, three mandatory calls per contract Hours per Shift: 36 hours guaranteed Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: High School Diploma or equivalent Certifications: American Heart Association BLS, Certified Surgical Technologist Must-Have: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program. Description: The Surgical Technologist Certified functions in the role of scrub person. Works under the supervision of the surgeon and the registered nurse to ensure a safe operating room environment. Ensures equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Possesses expertise in the theory and application of surgical technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools and technologies. Facilitates safe care of patients during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Responsible for completing case carts according to preference cards. Recognizes and interprets preference cards for procuring instruments and supplies. Communicates clearly with operating room staff and sterile processing staff to coordinate instrumentation. Reviews the daily schedule with relevant personnel, identifying potential turnover delays and scheduling issues. Assumes responsibility for core communication and delegates duties accordingly. Coordinates breaks and lunches with appropriate individuals. Acts as a resource for the departments involved with procurement of necessary items for surgical procedures. Communicates effectively regarding supply utilization and deployment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work in a busy and stressful environment. Ability to work varied shifts. Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates sound judgement, patience, and maintains professionalism. Exhibits creativity, problem analysis, and decision-making skills. Schedule Requirements: Requires regular and sustained attendance. May necessitate working beyond the standard workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
