Job Title: Scrub Technician Profession: Technician Specialty: Scrub Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: None specified Certifications: - NBSTSA-Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - BLS Must-Have: High School Diploma/GED and completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist educational program or approved Surgical Technology training through U.S. Military Training Program Description: To provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards. Constant interaction with internal and external customers including patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors. Assists in the coordination of patient care. Collaborates with other health team members. Participates in performance improvement activities. Acts in the role of support during the surgical procedure but not as a surgical assistant. Creates and maintains asepsis. Performs scrubbing duties. Communicates patient information to the appropriate personnel. Accounts for all equipment and supplies used in patient care. Communicates with peers, other health team members, patients, and visitors. Maintains adaptability and supports teamwork within the department and units. Resolves problems effectively. Consistently meets the department's Customer Service Quality Standards. Performs clinical preceptor role for scrubbing and follows orientation outline. Maintains cleanliness in the unit and cleans equipment. Responsible for the equipment use and care during surgical cases. Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to provide patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Frequent standing for long periods, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping. Frequent lifting/moving patients and intermittent lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity, constant reaching, and twisting. Frequent talking and/or hearing with corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials and conditions common to a healthcare environment. Moderate to high noise level in the work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department.
