Job Title: Scrub Technician Profession: Technician Specialty: Cardiovascular Operating Room Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Must have cardiac/vascular and hybrid experiences License: NBSTSA-Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certifications: BLS Must-Have: CVOR experience Description: To provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards. Constant interaction with internal and external customers including patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors. Assists in the coordination of patient care. Assists the registered nurse in planning patient care. Collaborates with other health team members. Participates in performance improvement activities. Acts in the role of support during the surgical procedure but not as a surgical assistant during the surgical procedure. Creates and maintains asepsis. Performs scrubbing duties. Communicates patient information to the appropriate persons. Accounts for all equipment and supplies used in patient care. Communicates with peers, other health team members, patients, and visitors. Maintains adaptability and supports teamwork within the department and units. Resolves problems effectively. Consistently meets the department's Customer Service Quality Standards. Performs clinical preceptor role for scrubbing and follows the orientation outline. Collaborates with the patient care coordinator and educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist. Maintains cleanliness in the unit. Maintains and cleans equipment. Held responsible for the equipment use and care in which it is used during the surgical case. Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to provide patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in preparing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment. This position has limited access to Medication Rooms. Medications should not be handled at any time. Any questions should be directed to the supervisor or the charge nurse of the unit in question. Frequent standing for long periods, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping. Frequent lifting or moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving, or carrying up to 50 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms and twisting. Frequent talking and/or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Moderate to high noise level in the work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department.
