Key Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring the operating room environment is safe and equipment functions properly
• Ensure availability and preparedness of OR rooms, supplies, and equipment needed to support efficient and effective perioperative processes
• Maintain the sterile field, assist with draping the patient, and perform instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator
• Assist with patient positioning, prepping, lifting, and turning in accordance with standards of practice and departmental policies
• Prepare and pass off specimens as appropriate and clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization
• Demonstrate competency in emergency management, infection control, operative pre/intra/post procedural patient care, and all assigned access control applications

Required Qualifications

• Active CST certification through NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) — NBSTSA certification only; no other certifying bodies accepted
• Experience in a cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) setting
• Working knowledge of sterile instruments, sutures, equipment, and sterile technique
• Ability to maintain a professional image and demonstrate excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers
• Must be flexible, punctual, and willing to learn within the surgical environment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience with cardiovascular or cardiothoracic surgical procedures
• Familiarity with surgical site verification and time-out procedures
• Experience using standard precautions and appropriate PPE when handling hazardous substances including blood and body fluids
