Key Responsibilities of the Ophthalmic Technician
Escort patients to and from exam rooms
Obtain a complete history focusing on patients' eye symptoms
Review patient allergies and medications
Perform visual acuity tests and measure intraocular pressure
Administer eye drops in preparation for exams
Conduct visual fields, A/B scans, OCT, fundus photography, and more
Monitor provider schedules and patient flow
Maintain exam room supplies and equipment
Participate in training and continuing education
Requirements of the Ophthalmic Technician
High School diploma or GED
Certified as COA, COT, COMT by JCAHPO
Minimum 1 year of experience
BLS certification
