Description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for a float pool position requiring 2-3 years of tele experience and a CA RN license, with float responsibilities across two campuses.

Details

• Float pool position based at a hospital, floating to a second facility 9 miles away
• Telemetry unit with 31 beds and a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Charge nurse and resource RN or shift manager on every shift, charge nurse does not take a patient assignment
• Nurse aides typically available, though staffing may vary by census
• Cares for high-acuity patients including pneumonia, end-stage renal disease, post cath lab, respiratory distress, CHF, and COPD
• Manages non-titrating drips including amiodarone, cardizem, and heparin
• No ventilator management, though patients may require BiPAP or CPAP
• Uses Philips telemetry monitors with dedicated monitor techs; RNs must read and sign off on strips
• In-house hospitalist coverage with on-call availability after hours
• 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support
• No IV team support
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-7:30a)
• Weekend requirement of 4 shifts in a 4-week schedule (Fri, Sat, Sun nights)
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor holiday
• Floats to 2 South, 3 North, the second facility (tele or medsurg), and ER for MS/tele holds
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Navy scrub color required

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2-3 years of recent telemetry nursing experience required
• Experience managing drips required
• Chest tube experience preferred
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Must be able to read telemetry strips independently
• Comfortable working in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with limited support staff

Additional Information

• Provide primary telemetry nursing care with limited dedicated tech support
• Complete floor-specific orientation including one shift on the home unit and one shift on each floating unit, plus orientation at the second facility
• Strong candidates will demonstrate a positive attitude and compassionate patient care approach
• First-time travelers may be considered given sufficient telemetry experience
