Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardio Thoracic Telemetry Unit position requiring EKG interpretation skills and IL RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the Cardio Thoracic Unit of a 70-bed acute care hospital setting
  • Telemetry unit caring for patients with MI, CHF, A-fib, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, lung surgery patients, chest tubes, and esophagectomy patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6 on nights
  • PCT support available with ratios of 1:10-12 on nights
  • 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor coverage on the unit
  • Philips telemetry monitoring with dedicated monitor techs, though RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • RNs required to titrate drips including Cardizem and heparin
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0730
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday)
  • Holiday rotation required for Memorial Day Eve, July 3rd, Labor Day Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve
  • Floating required to other general medical units
  • No call or standby requirements

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS recommended
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • EKG interpretation and medication titration skills required
  • Strong foundational nursing skills required
  • Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to cardiothoracic and telemetry patients including drip titration and EKG monitoring
  • Troubleshoot CPAP/BiPAP equipment as part of patient's home regimen, with heated high flow used only in special circumstances
  • Unit-specific orientation typically consists of one shift or partial shift, depending on prior OSF facility experience
  • Scrubs may be any color but must avoid children's or cartoon prints as this is an adult unit
  • Local rate available for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
