Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to adult Med/Surg and telemetry patients in a 32-bed all-private-room unit.
• Maintain approximately 1:4 ratio for telemetry patients and 1:5 for Med/Surg patients; mixed assignments maintain a 1:4 ratio.
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and continuously monitor patients for changes in condition.
• Care for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry needs, stroke, COVID, forensic cases, and potential post-operative conditions.
• Independently interpret cardiac rhythms and recognize clinically significant rhythm changes.
• Administer medications and manage prescribed Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin set-rate drips according to facility protocols.
• Monitor patients requiring CPAP or BiPAP in collaboration with respiratory therapy and physicians.
• Provide appropriate stroke assessment, monitoring, interventions, and documentation.
• Perform medication administration and provide patients with medication education, including potential side effects.
• Conduct intentional hourly rounding and promote patient safety.
• Participate in bedside shift report and effective handoff communication.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, CNAs, nurse managers, charge nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Respond promptly to changes in patient status and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Cerner.
• Follow evidence-based nursing practices, infection-control procedures, and patient-safety standards.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent admissions and high-acuity patients.
• Float as the first-to-float traveler to other Med/Surg/Telemetry units, including the affiliated facility approximately 6.5 miles away, when required.
• May float to ICU for Med/Surg/Telemetry-level patients or to the ER for Med/Surg/Telemetry holds, within scope and competency.
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled.
• No regular call requirement, but may be placed on standby for low census; if called in, a 30-minute response time is required.

Med/Surg Tele RN – Requirements Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg/Telemetry experience required BLS (AHA) required ACLS required NIHSS – AHA or APEX required Active nursing license required for submission. Cerner experience preferred Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythms independently. Experience caring for telemetry and stroke patients required/preferred. Experience with non-titratable/set-rate cardiac drips, including: Cardizem Amiodarone Heparin Experience with CPAP/BiPAP preferred. Must be comfortable caring for high-acuity and fast-paced Med/Surg patients. BSN not required Must be available for 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM. Every other weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Must be willing to first float. Navy blue scrubs required. Must maintain strict attendance and punctuality standards. 36 guaranteed hours per week.
