Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist PRN

Primary Purpose
The Ultrasound Technologist prioritizes and coordinates ultrasound exams with nursing units, radiologists, and referring
physicians. Performs ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Provides adequate
patient care as it relates to the exam requested. Operates ultrasound and associated equipment with proficiency.

Major Responsibilities

• Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient
• Assists Radiologist in performance of invasive procedures
• Evaluates technical quality of exam and develops a superior varied technique for elevated efficiency in the

department
• Supports and contributes to the Patient-Centered Care Philosophy by understanding that every staff member is

a Caregiver, whose role is to meet the needs of each patient.
• Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Assistant Director, Lead Sonographer and/or Engineer.
• Operates the Radiology computer system to include entering and charging exams and supplies.
• Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Assists in keeping the area completely stocked.
• Adheres to departmental rules and regulations while performing in a professional manner always
• Interpersonal skills required


Minimum Job Requirements
Education

Certification / License
• Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of
Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or if a new graduate, registry eligible
• New graduates must pass their registry within one year or employment date
• BLS required per policy guidelines.

Preferred Job Requirements

• Completion of a comprehensive, medical diagnostic ultrasound program

Physical Requirements
Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies up to 600 pounds
with assistance. Work requires walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting during normal
operation. Requires mental skills to read and comprehend patient orders and technical materials. Motor coordination
needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact sense of sight and hearing.

o May see Radiology students

o Certified Chest Pain Center

o Stroke Center

Department Information:

o Average across departments - 250-300 patients per day

o Minimum Years of Experience required? 1 year

o Will you accept a first-time traveler? No

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

o Cancer, Stroke, Covid, Flu, RSV, Heart attack

Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:

o All modalities will require photo ID – collected during compliance process

o NC State Licensure is not required

o US Tech: BLS; ARDMS (no specific anatomy cert required) or ARRT

Skills required:

o All departments: Fast learner, multitasker

o Ultrasound – must have Vascular experience

Support within the Department:

o Depends on the shift

Technology/Equipment:

o EMR: EPIC

o Department specific Equipment:

Ultrasound: Siemens Sequoia, P2000

Floating: If yes, where?

o Will float between Cleveland (Main) Hospital and the Outpatient clinic Cleveland Advanced Imaging Center, as needed

Orientation (facility and unit) :

o Orientation modules paperwork will take at least 1 day

o 2 days departmental

Scheduling:

o Weekend rotation: will work weekends as needed, no clear rotation

o On call? If so, what is that schedule? Generally, don't require call

o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays

o RTO: Manager approval

o Shift times: Depends on requisition being filled

o Schedule cycle: every 13 weeks
