Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist Profession: Ultrasound Tech Specialty: Ultrasound Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years License: ARDMS or RVT Certifications: BLS (AHA Only) Description: The Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasound procedures in ambulatory and/or hospital environments as requested by a physician or licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols. This position requires performing high-quality ultrasound procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner. Production and quality of imaging procedures must be maintained by following established standards and procedures. Effective communication with patients utilizing AIDET is essential. The technologist instructs and communicates with patients and their families regarding the tests to be performed and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam. Preparation of the patient and area for the procedure includes positioning the patient, adjusting immobilization devices, and moving equipment into the specified position. Safety requirements, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques must be adhered to. Proper sterile techniques should be used when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures, and hand hygiene requirements must be maintained. Maintaining equipment and the work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards is required. Collaboration with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment is necessary. Documentation such as requisitions, patient history, consent forms, and shielding precautions must be obtained, verified, and maintained. Imaging team members are expected to adhere to policies, procedures, and workflows. Maintaining medical imaging records in appropriate systems according to department policies and standards is essential. Key success factors include the ability to perform high-quality ultrasound procedures, explain procedures clearly, and provide timely and cost-efficient services. The technologist must be able to work independently and maintain a calm and helpful attitude under stress. Administering first aid and using emergency equipment is required. Customer satisfaction must be ensured by limiting wait times and providing courteous service. Continued education and maintaining current knowledge for appropriate care of different age groups is necessary. Opportunities to serve as a trainer for new team members and on new services and initiatives may be available. Availability to take on-call shifts, if required.
