Job Title: Ultrasound Technician Profession: Ultrasound Tech Specialty: CPRH Ultrasound Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 1+ years of experience in ultrasound/sonography License: BLS (American Heart Assoc.), ARDMS Certifications: Associate's Degree in Ultrasound/Sonography OR Certificate of completion of Ultrasound/Sonography program Must-Have: - DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING - USE OF TRANSDUCERS - ULTRASOUND PROCEDURES - SONOGRAPHY - PATIENT PREPARATION Description: Perform routine and specialized examinations in Ultrasound. Adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic results. Prepare patients for examinations. This requires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologist. Perform ultrasound procedures in a manner that ensures an accurate and complete examination within the guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards of Medical Imaging. Exhibit competency in performing ultrasound procedures. Capture required views demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathology. Maintain knowledge of catheters, biopsy instruments, and sterile trays, preparing these items as necessary. Obtain accurate histories and explain the rationale for procedures to patients and families. Enhance image quality through the use of appropriate transducers and machine settings. Evaluate finished images to ensure diagnostic exams are being submitted to the radiologists. Maintain quality care throughout the procedure. Assess the abdominal arterial and venous system using color imaging. Maintain working knowledge of equipment in order to function in all areas of ultrasound. Perform reasonable troubleshooting on ultrasound equipment. Report equipment problems through appropriate channels and document on boards for staff notification. Maintain a clean work area and check and stock all supplies in the specific area. Verify pertinent accessories assigned to the examination room. Document areas of concern accurately. Set up trays with sterile fields for the radiologist. Assist radiologists with biopsies as needed. Order labs and pathology tests as directed by a radiologist. Perform support functions to ensure patient expectations and needs are met. Assume personal responsibility for training fellow technologists and students. Process images and paperwork promptly to ensure timely reporting to the physician's office. Complete all appropriate paperwork for accurate reporting. Coordinate patient flow to ensure efficient and timely patient care. Enter patient information into the system accurately to ensure efficient throughput. Maintain the QA, QC, and QI programs. Share knowledge and guide fellow technologists and students regarding department protocols and procedures. Display a professional attitude towards fellow technologists and students. Foster mutual respect and create a productive learning environment.
