Certifications: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT Certified) Must-Have: - Competency in performing diagnostic procedures - Excellent communication skills in a team environment - Quality focus - Strong planning and people skills - Dependability - Ability to create a safe and effective environment Description: The X-Ray Technologist operates and oversees the operation of radiologic and magnetic imaging equipment. They produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. They are responsible for preparing patients for radiological procedures. Adherence to safety measures is essential to ensure compliance with regulations. The technologist identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport. They gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties and providing explanations of treatment. They prepare the patient for radiological procedures by positioning them appropriately. Adjustments to immobilization devices and equipment controls are made to set exposure factors. They minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques. This includes using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding. They adhere to established infection control policies and procedures. The technologist maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards. They process radiographs and observe results, making necessary adjustments. Documentation of patient care services is performed by charting in records. They ensure the operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance. Troubleshooting malfunctions and calling for repairs are also their responsibilities. They maintain inventories of radiology supplies by checking stock and anticipating needs. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment is critical. They must comply with all procedures, rules, and regulations. Continuous professional and technical knowledge must be maintained through CME requirements. Participation in educational workshops and review of professional publications is encouraged. They contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed. Completing yearly Age Specific Competency and other relevant duties as assigned is required.
