Description:
The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for patients during a designated time frame.
This position provides care specifically in the invasive lab.
The role is responsible for diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
This includes electrophysiology devices, peripheral vascular, neuro interventional, and interventional radiology procedures.
The Cath/IR RT produces quality imaging and assists the Interventionalist in performing invasive procedures.
The position involves technical hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation using automated techniques.
Responsibilities include administering contrast material according to physician requests.
The technologist recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
They anticipate the setup and needs for invasive procedures.
The RT circulates, scrubs, and/or monitors a variety of procedures including cardiac Cath, neuro interventional, and peripheral vascular procedures.
The RT assists with inventory and coordinates with inventory supply specialists to ensure necessary equipment is available.
Checking for correct patient identification and treatment position is essential.
Compiling pertinent clinical information and completing procedural documentation accurately is necessary.
The RT explains procedures to patients and provides care that includes comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
They verify the successful transfer of images to PACS and troubleshoot basic PACS issues.
Performing on-call duties and working variable shifts to meet department needs are part of the role.
The technologist is required to float to all areas of the department as needed.
Maintaining a clean and neat work area is important.
Demonstrating competence in the operation of imaging and physiological monitoring equipment is required.
They perform basic troubleshooting for this equipment.
Achieving hemostasis at vascular access sites and monitoring patients for complications are vital.
The RT maintains the safety of staff and patients during invasive procedures by following the ALARA principle.
They are able to use adjunctive tools to complete procedures.
Cath lab work includes a variety of procedures such as catheterizations and interventions.
The RT assists in the instruction of new staff as necessary.
