MLCO Construction
Traveling Construction Superintendent
Location: Nationwide travel from your home base. Projects are located throughout the United States. Travel is expected for the duration of assigned projects, with company-provided housing while on assignment.
Build Nationwide. Lead from the Front.
MLCO Construction is a Chicago-headquartered general contractor and design-builder specializing in small- to mid-scale storage and commercial construction projects across the United States. Our work includes self-storage, RV storage, industrial outdoor storage, flex-bay facilities, renovations, conversions, and ground-up construction. We combine traditional hospitality values with modern technology and processes to deliver an exceptional experience for clients, trade partners, and project teams.
MLCO Construction is seeking an experienced, independent Traveling Construction Superintendent to oversee projects throughout the United States. This role is responsible for leading day-to-day field operations, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring that each project meets MLCO's standards for safety, quality, communication, and execution.
Because our superintendents frequently manage projects away from a central office, the ideal candidate must be comfortable taking ownership, making sound decisions, and operating independently while remaining closely connected with the assigned Project Manager. You will work as part of a defined PM-Superintendent team and share responsibility for the overall performance and success of each project. Our projects commonly include pre-engineered metal buildings, steel erection, underground utilities, grading, concrete, asphalt, curb and gutter, stormwater systems, and other large-scale site improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all daily field operations from mobilization through project closeout.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, inspections, and site activities.
- Develop and maintain short-term schedules that support the overall project timeline.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Enforce company and project-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct regular site meetings and communicate progress, concerns, and upcoming needs.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to track schedules, costs, change conditions, and project performance.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and construction documents.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, progress photos, reports, and documentation in Procore.
- Identify potential delays, conflicts, or field issues and develop practical solutions.
- Coordinate municipal inspections, utility work, testing, and project closeout requirements.
- Build professional, hospitality-minded relationships with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and trade partners.
- Travel from one assigned project to the next as required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Construction Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or comparable field leader. 5+ years serving as a commercial construction superintendent preferred.
- Experience overseeing commercial construction or larger-scale multi-unit projects.
- Knowledge of site development, underground utilities, concrete, asphalt, structural steel, or pre-engineered metal buildings is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing projects ranging from approximately $1 million to $15 million is beneficial.
- Proficiency with Procore is strongly preferred.
- Experience using Procore for daily logs, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Strong leadership, subcontractor coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent communication with the project team.
- Entrepreneurial, self-starting mindset and willingness to take ownership.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the United States.
- Travel is expected approximately 90-100% of the time. Typical project assignments range from 4-10 months depending on project scope.
- Commitment to safety, quality, accountability, and professional relationships.
Pay and Benefits
- Full-time, W-2 Employment
- Base salary: $75.000 - $90.000 annually, depending on experience.
- Eligible for an annual performance bonus targeted at approximately 25% of base salary based on measurable project and company performance. Bonus eligibility and payout are not guaranteed.
- Eligible for company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits.
- Employee-contribution 401(k) plan.
- Company-provided or reimbursed project housing while traveling.
- Company vehicle or vehicle allowance for project-related travel.
- Travel-related expenses provided or reimbursed according to company policy.
- Opportunities to lead projects throughout multiple regions of the United States.
- Professional development and mentorship within a growing construction company.
- Schedule: Full-time. Project schedules typically require Monday-Friday work with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
