Job Title: Commercial Construction Project Superintendent

Job Description

The Project Superintendent oversees a diverse portfolio of commercial construction projects along the East Coast, ranging from interior renovations to ground-up builds with typical project values between $1 million and $10 million. This role leads day-to-day site operations, coordinates subcontractors and project teams, and ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all on-site activities for commercial construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
  • Oversee a wide variety of projects, including interior fit-outs and ground-up commercial builds, typically ranging from $1 million to $10 million in value.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractor selection, onboarding, and performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create, maintain, and update detailed project schedules and budgets, ensuring alignment with contractual requirements and client expectations.
  • Organize and run regular progress meetings with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to review status, address issues, and maintain clear communication.
  • Manage permitting processes and coordinate inspections with local authorities to ensure full compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for clients, maintaining professional communication and promptly addressing questions and concerns.
  • Oversee construction document management, including RFIs, submittals, blueprints, and other project documentation, ensuring accurate distribution and tracking.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and communicate requirements clearly to field teams and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings related to project planning, scheduling, logistics, and safety.
  • Support estimating efforts by providing field insights, constructability feedback, and historical project data as needed.
  • Monitor site safety, quality, and productivity, and take proactive steps to resolve issues and keep projects on track.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of project progress, changes, and field conditions.
  • Travel to and oversee project sites along the East Coast as required by the project portfolio.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a project superintendent role for a commercial general contractor.
  • Proven experience overseeing commercial construction projects with values over $1 million.
  • Strong project management skills within a commercial construction environment.
  • Demonstrated history of traveling to and managing projects across multiple locations.
  • Hands-on experience with construction document management, including RFIs, submittals, and blueprints.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction blueprints and specifications.
  • Experience in subcontractor selection, coordination, and performance management.
  • Proficiency in creating and managing project schedules and budgets.
  • Experience with meeting coordination and facilitation for project progress and planning.
  • experience in contractor selection and management for commercial projects.
  • Experience in document control and management for construction projects.
  • Ability to support estimating activities with field knowledge and project data.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hybrid field and office setting, with time split between a newly renovated office in Aberdeen and active commercial project sites along the East Coast. The office environment consists of a close-knit team of approximately 10 people, fostering collaboration and direct communication. Work is conducted on-site, and remote work is not part of this position. Project sites will vary, offering exposure to different building types, locations, and conditions, and require regular travel to manage and oversee field operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bel Air, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
