Job Description

The Traveling Superintendent oversees commercial ground-up construction projects, with a strong focus on restaurant and hospitality builds. The superintendent works closely with the project management team in the office, maintains detailed documentation through online portals, and uses construction technology tools to support efficient project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the foremen for each trade on the jobsite, providing clear direction and support.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations on commercial and restaurant ground-up construction sites, typically supervising between 4 and 50 workers at a time.
  • Collaborate and communicate daily with the project manager in the office to align field activities with project goals, schedules, and budgets.
  • Plan and coordinate project schedules, including sequencing of trades and activities, to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify work quality, adherence to plans and specifications, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage and enforce quality control and quality assurance processes to ensure a high standard of workmanship.
  • Maintain detailed daily and weekly logs and reports using the company's online portal, accurately documenting progress, issues, and site conditions.
  • Utilize construction technology tools such as PlanGrid and Microsoft Excel to review plans, track progress, and manage project information.
  • Communicate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal team members to resolve issues and keep work moving efficiently.
  • Promote and support a strong safety culture on site, encouraging safe work practices and adherence to OSHA guidelines.
  • Use an iPad, laptop, and phone to access project documents, communicate with the office, and complete required reporting.
  • Support a collaborative, team-oriented environment on site, ensuring that no team member feels isolated and that all trades work cohesively.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of ground-up and site work construction experience, ideally with a strong focus on commercial projects.
  • Proven experience overseeing commercial or restaurant ground-up builds as a superintendent or in a similar leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple trades and foremen on active job sites.
  • Experience with site work, including understanding of foundations, utilities, and civil scopes on ground-up projects.
  • Ability to use construction technology tools, including PlanGrid and Microsoft Excel, for plans, documentation, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for communication, documentation, and basic data tracking.
  • Comfort using an iPad, laptop, and phone to access project information and complete daily and weekly reports.
  • Possession of at least an OSHA 10 certification.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work closely with a project manager and field teams on a daily basis.
  • Capability to maintain detailed daily and weekly logs and reports through an online portal.
  • Ability to work autonomously on site while remaining aligned with the broader project team.
  • Ground-up commercial construction experience that goes beyond solely residential projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Restaurant or hospitality construction experience is a major plus and highly valued.
  • Trade experience is preferred, and candidates should be able to describe their specific trade background.
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction management platforms is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with PlanGrid (or similar platforms) as a primary tool for reviewing plans and managing field documentation.
  • OSHA 30 certification is a bonus but not required.
  • background in commercial, restaurant, or hospitality environments is advantageous.
  • A collaborative mindset and a positive, solutions-oriented attitude toward past and current roles.
  • Ability to thrive in a family-oriented, non-micromanaged culture that values autonomy and accountability.

Work Environment

This role is fully field-based and requires regular travel to active commercial construction sites, primarily focused on ground-up restaurant builds. The superintendent serves as the primary on-site representative from the company and is typically the only full-time company team member on the jobsite, aside from periodic visits from other team members. Projects involve commercial and restaurant ground-up construction in a variety of locations, with the first assignment being a restaurant build in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, involving coordination of multiple trades, inspections, and schedules. The superintendent uses an iPad, laptop, and phone, along with tools such as PlanGrid and Microsoft Office, to access plans, manage documentation, and communicate with the office.
