Position Overview

Join Cumberland Countys Justice Services Department and help make a lasting impact on individuals, families, and the community. Justice Services manages criminal justice programs from pre-arrest through reentry while leading initiatives that enhance public safety and support criminal justice partnerships.

The Treatment Court Coordinator manages a caseload of participants in the Countys specialty treatment courts, including mental health clients. This position coordinates participant referrals, conducts intake interviews, facilitates assessments and supportive services, prepares reports for the court and treatment team, assists with drug screenings, manages grant reporting requirements, and supports funding opportunities that strengthen treatment court programs.

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinate participant referrals, intake, screening, and eligibility determination for assigned treatment court programs.
  • Serve as the primary case manager, monitoring participant progress and coordinating services throughout program participation.
  • Obtain required releases of information and coordinate treatment assessments and individualized treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with probation officers, treatment providers, social service agencies, and other community partners to support participant success.
  • Prepare written reports and provide case updates to the treatment court core team and participating agencies.
  • Schedule court status conferences, coordinate hearings, and present written and oral progress reports to the court.
  • Conduct random drug testing, record test results, and maintain accurate participant documentation and court records.
  • Enter and maintain participant information in case management, grant management, and other required databases in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate treatment court staffing and engage community resources, including universities and community colleges, to enhance program services.
  • Attend court proceedings, treatment sessions, hospital meetings, and other appointments to advocate for and support assigned participants.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in a human services field and two (2) years of criminal justice or substance abuse related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Management Preferences:

Experience in the mental health field and/or experience with treatment court management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of case management
  • Knowledge of interviewing methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health assessments and services
  • Knowledge of diagnostic methods and principles
  • Knowledge of basic structure of the civil and criminal justice systems
  • Knowledge of budgets and invoice processing
  • Ability with MS Word and Excel to create communication documents and spreadsheets and MS PowerPoint to create presentations.
  • Ability to identify symptoms of substance abuse
  • Ability to solve problems analytically, maintain records, files and reports; coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with court staff and individuals outside of the judicial branch
  • Ability to develop and foster a spirit of teamwork to improve the quality of work teams and committees and to bring people from different agencies together to accomplish the goals of the program
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle

Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record. If your drivers license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC drivers license within 60 days of hire.
