Job Summary

This role focuses on supporting largescale water, wastewater, and critical infrastructure projects specializing in treatment plant. The Outside Sales Representative builds and maintains strong relationships with municipalities, engineers and contractors engaged in major civil and mechanical infrastructure work. This position requires significant field engagement, technical aptitude, and the ability to manage complex project scopes from pre-bid design through delivery.

Requires operation of a Company Vehicle, or a Personal Vehicle and such operation is done consistently more than 20% of the average work week. If selected for this position, Core & Main will run a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report. A requirement of this position is an acceptable MVR report.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Project & Scope Management

Manage project workloads for Treatment plant and critical infrastructure projects.
Present customerprovided material lists and complete billofmaterial packages.
Coordinate multistage shipments to align with construction schedules utilizing project management team.
Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and execution throughout each project lifecycle.

Technical Expertise & Solution Support

Apply strong knowledge of water, wastewater, and civil/mechanical processes.
Support customers with product recommendations, technical clarifications, and systemlevel solutions.
Maintain expertise in core product categories:
PVF (pipe, valves, fittings)
HDPE and fusion equipment
Operators, actuators, and related plant components

Quotation & Drafting Collaboration

Partner with internal quotation, estimating and pre-bid manager teams:
Plantspecific scopes
Detailed infrastructure material takeoffs
Designbuild support packages

Ensure customers receive accurate, comprehensive, and timely proposals.

Business Development & Market Expansion

Identify new opportunities across the water, wastewater, and municipal ecosystems.
Develop relationships with engineering firms, public agencies, and major developers.
Attend industry events, associations, and trade shows to expand presence and pipeline.
Conduct market research to identify growth opportunities within the region.

Customer Relationship Management

Serve as the primary point of contact for plantrelated and infrastructure accounts.
Maintain deep, consultative relationships that drive longterm loyalty.
Act as a trusted resource for technical guidance, product sourcing, and project planning.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of industryrelated outside sales experience (waterworks, civil, mechanical, or distribution).
Experience supporting large infrastructure or plant environments (water/wastewater treatment, stormwater, industrial civil projects).
Strong technical aptitude: engineering background (especially civil) is a plus.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, material lists, and engineered designs.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex scopes and multiphase projects.
Seeking someone with a strong determination to be a successful outside sales representative.

Career Level Dimensions

Typical Training/Experience

Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline.
Generally, 2-5 years of experience in a related field; certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field.
Certification is required in some areas.

Environmental Job Requirements

Typically, in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes, which may cause noticeable discomfort.
Typically requires overnight travel more than 50% of the time.
