Treatment Plant Process Manager (Full-Time)

Location: Liverpool Wastewater Treatment Plant - Kenneth W. Hotz Water Reclamation Facility
Reports To: Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Superintendent
Position Summary
The Medina County Sanitary Engineer's Office is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Treatment Plant Process Manager to oversee and optimize wastewater treatment processes while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and team development.
This leadership position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing multiple wastewater treatment process areas, providing technical expertise, supporting maintenance and operational teams, and helping ensure the safe and efficient treatment of wastewater. The successful candidate will play a key role in process improvement, employee development, regulatory compliance, and long-term operational planning.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Process Management
- Coordinate and manage the operation and maintenance of multiple wastewater treatment processes.
- Monitor treatment performance and ensure compliance with EPA regulations and permit requirements.
- Evaluate operational and laboratory data to identify trends, optimize performance, and resolve process issues.
- Develop and implement operational improvements that enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Coordinate process adjustments and respond effectively to operational upsets and emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare operational reports.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop wastewater operations personnel.
- Provide hands-on technical training and continuous learning opportunities for staff.
- Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching, feedback, and corrective action when necessary.
- Promote teamwork, collaboration, and a positive work environment across shifts and departments.
- Review and approve employee time records and leave requests.
Technical Support & Asset Management
- Provide technical assistance for troubleshooting process equipment and operational challenges.
- Assist with process modifications, equipment start-ups, and implementation of new technologies.
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Coordinate inventory levels for chemicals, fuel, tools, supplies, and critical spare parts.
- Support maintenance planning and prioritization of repairs for process-related assets.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and departmental safety procedures.
- Ensure sampling and monitoring activities are conducted correctly.
- Maintain positive working relationships with regulatory agencies, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in emergency response activities as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Ohio Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and proof of insurance.
- Ability to obtain a Class IV Ohio Wastewater Operator Certificate within two years of eligibility.
- Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
- Supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Experience operating and optimizing wastewater treatment processes.
- Experience training and developing operational staff.

This position involves both office and field work and may require:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to wastewater treatment environments, chemicals, confined spaces, noise, vibration, and temperature extremes.
- Climbing stairs and ladders, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Travel throughout the county.
- Availability to respond to emergencies and after-hours situations when required.
