    Position: Triage Coordinator
    Reports to: Patient Services Manager Department
    Medical Floor FLSA: Non-Exempt
    Position Summary:
    The Triage Coordinator is responsible for responding to patient phone calls, completing FML paperwork, completing prior authorizations for medications and tests (CT scans, MRI scans, etc.). The Triage Coordinator will complete medication refills as directed by the physician as well as order tests and/or labs as directed by the physician.
    Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Serve as a liaison between patients and providers regarding treatment plans, medications, follow-up instructions and care recommendations
    • Receive and evaluate patient phone calls, portal messages, referrals and other clinical inquiries
    • Assess and prioritize patient’s symptoms and determine urgency using ophthalmic triage protocols
    • Address patient calls, triaging emergent calls and determining appropriate scheduling protocol for the situation
      • Complete patient medication refill requests
      • Completing FMLA, DOT, FAA paperwork
      • Prior authorizing imaging requests (i.e., CT scans, MRI)
    • Complete and maintain accurate documentation in a timely manner
    • Adherent to HIPPA and all applicable regulatory requirements
    • Follow all clinic policies for standards of care
    • Ability to remain unbiased when making decisions
    • Demonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient use of office equipment, working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced medical
    • Ability to see people as individuals, recognize and meet their specific needs related to their role
    • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other employees throughout the Clinic
    • Other duties as assigned
    Work Relationship and Scope:
    The Triage Coordinator reports directly to the Clinic Director
     
    Qualifications:
    Education
    • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or equivalent clinical experience.
    Experience
    • Experience in clinical triage, ambulatory care nursing or specialty clinic settings preferred
    • 2-4 years of patient service experience
    Work Conditions
    Work is performed at the main clinic: 800 N. First Street, Wausau, WI. Travel to satellite locations is required when needed. Hours of work will depend on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
