    Election Season State Triage Desks

    All Voting is Local's eight in-state teams are running at full speed for the midterm election cycle, and we're bringing on a short-term crew of 3-4 Triage Desks to make sure the most urgent issues reach the right people fast.

    We are seeking two Desks to support our states for a one-month engagement (October 13–November 13) and two additional Desks to support our states with surge capacity during Election Week in Washington, DC (November 1–7).

    The Election Season Triage Desk (“State Desks”) will provide full-time capacity to All Voting is Local during the highest-volume portion of the election cycle. You'll work alongside national staff and state leaders, see problems as they emerge, and help decide how we respond to critical election protection issues.

    The State Desks are a critical part of All Voting’s election response team and will act as key collaborators scoping and prioritizing emerging issues, serving as connectors between state teams and national staff and resources, and ensuring we have effective and timely responses. During a fast-paced, volatile election season, the Desks keep things moving and ensure the most urgent matters are addressed swiftly and effectively, so state teams can stay focused on their strategy.

    Role & Responsibilities

    Staying in regular contact with their assigned portfolio of 2-4 states, the Desks help identify, organize, route, and track emerging needs.

    The States Desks should approach this role first as listeners and problem-solvers: 1) understand what is happening, 2) determine what support is needed, and 3) help connect the right people and resources.

    • Monitor and identify emerging needs by staying in regular communication with assigned states and maintain awareness of emerging election administration issues, threats, partner needs, and opportunities.
      • The goal is not simply to collect information, but to identify: What is happening? Does it require action? Who needs to know? What support does the state need?
      • Help distinguish between:
        • Issues the state team can handle directly;
        • Requests that require national capacity;
        • Issues requiring compliance, communications, research/data, or other specialized support;
        • Significant developments that need to be elevated to organizational leadership.
    • Track state issues and tickets
      • Maintain visibility into significant requests and emerging issues.
      • Support decision-making and delegation, managing the lifecycle of issue tickets (triage, response, through to completion) within states.
      • Surface patterns across states flag when similar issues are emerging in multiple states
    • Immediately elevate issues that may:
      • Create substantial legal or operational risk;
      • Require rapid communications or organizational response;
      • Represent a significant escalation in election threats or interference;
      • Require resources or decisions beyond the respective State Director's authority; or have implications beyond the individual state.
    • Information Flow & Documentation
      • Own reporting needs (daily and weekly), writing clear descriptions of the issues and effectively describing the work being done by the state teams.
      • At conclusion of engagement, support debrief and provide recommendations for future election cycles.
      • At conclusion of engagement, hand off ongoing state tickets to Regional State Directors for continued resolution.

    State Desks will report to the Executive Vice President for State Campaigns and Programs or their designee on the Senior Leadership Team (Executive Vice President for Communications).

    Requirements:

    • Participate in virtual boiler room operations between October 13–October 31 and November 8–November 13.
    • Attend and participate in a national in-person boiler room in Washington, D.C., starting on Sunday, November 1 and ending on Saturday, November 7. Travel and lodging expenses will be covered.
    • Our ideal candidates have 7-8+ years of professional experience and a minimum of 1-2 cycles of campaign and/or election protection experience, with strong project and issue management skills, ability to quickly and efficiently distill and synthesis information into clear, actionable reports.

    Compensation:

    • $2,200 per week from October 13 - October 30 and November 8 - November 13 (virtual boiler room)
    • $3,200 for the week of November 1-7 (in-person boiler room)
