We are looking for one passionate, dedicated trial lawyer.

The Firm

The Law Firm for Truck Safety only represents families whose lives have been changed by catastrophic commercial truck crashes. We are a national plaintiffs' firm with ten offices and growing. We have more NBTA Board-Certified Truck Accident Law attorneys in the United States. Our lawyers help write the standards and try the cases that shape this area of law, recently winning a groundbreaking case in the U.S. Supreme Court. Many of us hold commercial driver's licenses. The work is demanding and it matters. Every case is a family rebuilding after the worst day of their lives, and often our roads become safer due to our work.

What You Would Earn

The position pays a $120,000 base salary plus a percentage of the settlements and verdicts in the cases you work on. The most recent attorney we hired into a role like this earned more than $1 million in their first full year. We say that not as a guarantee, but because this is real potential salary. If you are an excellent trial lawyer, the ceiling here is virtually unlimited.

The Cases and The Mentorship

You would start with roughly fifteen active matters, about ten wrongful death cases and five catastrophic injury cases. Around three-quarters are in Ohio; the remainder are spread across the country. This is a deliberately low-volume, high-value caseload, so we can give our clients the full attention and presence they deserve.

You will work directly with Michael Leizerman, who wrote the leading treatise on truck accident litigation, co-founded the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys, co-created the NBTA board certification in this field. On many cases you will be lead counsel, handling every phase from strategy through trial. On the largest matters, our high eight- and nine-figure cases, you will serve as lead litigation lawyer and second chair at trial.

The Work

The work is everything involved in high-stakes litigation, from the mundane to the courtroom. You will develop case strategy, take and defend depositions of corporate representatives, safety experts, and key witnesses, and work alongside crash reconstructionists, trucking-safety experts, life-care planners, and treating physicians. You will apply the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, lead negotiations, and stay in close contact with the families we represent. We keep a trial-first mindset. As you grow with the firm, there will be opportunities for business development, speaking, and thought leadership, but the heart of the job is being an outstanding trial lawyer.

About You

We are looking for a lawyer who wants to be in the courtroom with the judgment to run a serious case independently. Concretely, that means:

• A J.D. from an accredited law school and an active Ohio license, or the ability to obtain Ohio admission promptly

• At least five years of civil litigation experience, with substantial plaintiff-side personal injury and/or wrongful death work

• A demonstrated ability to manage cases independently from intake through resolution or trial

• Strong legal writing, complex discovery, motion practice, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills

• Willingness to travel as cases require

Direct trucking litigation experience, on either the plaintiff or defense side, is a real plus.

Growing Into The Role

Within three years of joining, you will be expected to earn NBTA Board Certification in Truck Accident Law and obtain a commercial driver's license. The certification marks you as among the most qualified truck crash lawyers in the country. The CDL means you intimately understand large trucks and truck driver training.

Logistics, Benefits, and The Rest

The role is full-time and exempt, and can be performed remotely from anywhere in the country or on a hybrid basis from our Toledo, Columbus, or Cleveland offices, provided you are admitted in Ohio. High-stakes litigation does not keep banker's hours; the role calls for flexibility around court deadlines, client needs, and trial.

We offer comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits), paid time off, holidays, and sick leave, meaningful professional development and leadership opportunities, and a collaborative, mission-driven culture built around trial work.

If this sounds like the role you've been preparing for, we encourage you to apply.
