Manufacturing Associate III – Trim Operator
Job Summary

Operates a variety of trim machines (upright, vertical, horizontal, and automatic) to cut, trim, and finish rubber and plastic manufactured parts. Ensures parts meet quality standards by removing excess material, inspecting for defects, and preparing finished products for next steps in production.

Key Responsibilities
Trimming & Machine/Hand Tool Work

  • Operate trim machines (upright, vertical, horizontal, automatic)
  • Trim excess rubber/plastic material from finished parts
  • Cut loose ends, threads, and rough edges for smooth finish
  • Use knives, scissors, grinders, and hand/bench tools to cut and shape materials
  • Route or cut out sections of parts using templates and tools
  • Position materials using patterns, templates, or measurements

Quality Control & Inspection

  • Inspect parts for defects (scratches, stains, chips, scars, improper shape/finish)
  • Mark or discard defective parts
  • Ensure finished parts meet quality standards

Production Handling & Material Movement

  • Read work orders to determine dimensions, quantities, and cutting requirements
  • Count, weigh, and bundle finished parts
  • Stack and load parts onto racks or conveyors
  • Transport materials using carts
  • Label parts with required information (part numbers, dates, sizes, revisions, IDs)

Safety, Team & Workplace Expectations

  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines at all times
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, or near misses
  • Participate in High Performance Teams (HPTs) for continuous improvement
  • Maintain clean, organized work area using 5S standards
  • Keep aisles and walkways clear; return tools to designated storage
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality
  • Overtime required based on production needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • OR
  • 2–3 years of machine operation or related manufacturing experience
  • Must be able to obtain a Certified Inspection Stamp through company training

Required Skills

  • Ability to read and follow:
    • Work orders
    • Blueprints
    • Equipment manuals
    • Written and verbal instructions
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply; compute ratios and percentages)
  • Strong attention to detail for quality inspection and defect identification
  • Ability to follow structured instructions and troubleshoot basic issues

Physical Requirements
This role is physically active and repetitive, including:

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Frequent use of hands for cutting, trimming, and handling parts
  • Occasional sitting
  • Lifting/carrying:
    • Up to 20 lbs frequently
    • 50 lbs occasionally
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching
  • Use of hand tools and portable power tools
  • Good near and color vision required
  • Ability to wear required PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.)

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing floor with moving machinery
  • Regular exposure to:
    • Loud noise
    • Heat
    • Fumes or airborne particles (occasionally)
    • Vibration
    • Mechanical hazards
