General Job Description:
Position Overview
As a Trimble Technician, you will specialize in performing precise on-site layout and verification for electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems using Trimble hardware. In addition to field layout, you will assist with the design and coordination of projects that leverage Trimble technology, utilizing CAD software, BIM models, and as-built documentation to produce accurate layouts and ensure installations align with design intent and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed layout and stake-out for electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems using Trimble equipment, including Robotic Total Stations and Total Stations.
- Conduct periodic as-built surveys, field measurements, and installation verification for multi-trade MEP systems, excluding fire sprinkler systems.
- Convert, import, export, and integrate field measurements and layout data using CAD/BIM software, including AutoCAD, to produce accurate field drawings and project records.
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain Trimble-ready models, point files, and layouts for electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems using CAD/BIM software and project design documents.
- Assist project teams with constructability reviews, multi-trade coordination, and clash resolution to ensure layouts are accurate, coordinated, and installable before construction begins.
- Review architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing drawings to identify potential layout discrepancies, spatial conflicts, and design coordination issues.
- Coordinate penetrations, sleeves, hangers, equipment locations, underground systems, overhead systems, and other installation points across multiple trades.
- Work closely with MEP team members, BIM/VDC personnel, project managers, and site supervisors to address layout discrepancies, design conflicts, and field conditions.
- Produce and maintain organized field documentation, annotated sketches, point tables, layout files, as-built documentation, and CAD/BIM drawings for project records and stakeholder communication.
- Update CAD/BIM drawings and layout files to reflect approved design changes, RFIs, coordination decisions, and verified field conditions.
- Validate layout points, elevations, control points, offsets, and equipment locations before releasing information for field installation.
- Maintain, inspect, and calibrate Trimble devices and related equipment to ensure reliable operation and measurement accuracy.
- Ensure proper data logging, file naming, version control, backups, and validation of layout and as-built information.
- Ensure all layout, modeling, coordination, and design-support activities comply with applicable codes, project specifications, approved construction documents, company standards, and quality requirements.
- Communicate layout status, discrepancies, and required corrections clearly to project stakeholders.
- Follow all company safety procedures and project-specific requirements while working on active construction sites.
