TRIO Student Support Services is seeking qualified tutors to provide academic support to students participating in the TRIO program. Tutors may be hired in collaboration with the COCC Tutoring Center and will work directly with TRIO students to strengthen academic skills, reinforce course content, and promote student confidence and independence.

This position supports TRIO's mission to increase retention, academic success, and graduation rates among eligible students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring in math, communications, and writing courses
  • Support students in understanding course material and developing effective study strategies
  • Encourage help seeking behavior, confidence building, peer mentorship and collaboration
  • Maintain accurate documentation of tutoring sessions (attendance, topics covered, etc.)
  • Communicate relevant academic concerns to TRIO staff when appropriate
  • Participate in required tutor orientation

Department Specific

This is an up to 10 hours per week position.

Ergonomic Requirements

Regular office hours are established between 8 am - 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Maintain B as minimum grade in specified subjects
  • Successful completion of coursework in the subject areas to be tutored
