Truck Driver - UIC Sand & Gravel

Overview:

UIC Sand and Gravel is seeking a hard-working, reliable truck driver to join our team in Barrow, Alaska. The ideal candidate will have experience with CDL Class A tractor trailers, and heavy equipment. This role involves rig support hauling and gravel sand hauling, with a strong emphasis on safety.

Responsibilities:

Essential functions will include:

 

Operate the following:

• Loader; dump truck; forklift; and other pieces of heavy equipment as needed. Experience and ability to operate other types of equipment is desired. Perform daily safety inspections of construction machinery.
• Additional duties as assigned by Project Superintendent.
• Applicant may be subject to environmental conditions of extreme cold; noise exposure; constantly changing work environment; irregular surfaces; slippery surfaces; moving equipment; open excavations; temporary structures; and general construction hazards.
• Maintain equipment and safety standards. Report any incident; situations or activity that may affect the company's ability to operate safely; ethically; and profitably to the Superintendent.
• All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrate the ability to perform in a proficient manner the assigned duties involved with general construction and equipment usage.
• Operate Loaders; Forklifts and Dump trucks under crowded or space limited jobsite conditions. - Demonstrate safe operation and knowledge of the equipment around ground personnel.
• 2 years + experience operating on commercial job site, preferred.
• 2 years + experience driving Articulating Dump Trucks, preferred.
• Ability to perform all work tasks in a safe and orderly fashion.
• Ability to perform independently without direct supervision.
• Ability to maintain open and responsive communication with Superintendent.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with vendors; subcontractors; clients; supervisors and coworkers.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Work Schedule & Environment:

• Involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks; which require following basic safety precautions.

• Must be able to sit in the operators seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals; switches; levers; buttons; etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment).

• Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting; pushing; or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

• While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical part; fumes; airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration.
