What You'll Do:

If you're sharp, organized, good with people, and you want a job that actually pays - this is the one. The Scale Operator is the hub of the yard. Every truck that rolls in goes through you. You'll weigh loads, process transactions, verify materials, manage traffic flow, and make sure every deal is done right and by the book. It's a fast-moving, detail-driven role where accuracy matters and your hustle directly impacts the operation. Backed by Nucor's weekly pay, production bonuses, and one of the best benefits packages in the business - this is more than a job at the scale house.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures - attend safety meetings and keep the scale area safe
  • Weigh and purchase inbound scrap - collect required customer information, complete all purchasing and shipping documents, and reconcile transactions daily
  • Follow all legal requirements for purchasing materials - accuracy and compliance are non-negotiable
  • Communicate pricing and material specifications clearly to customers - you're the face of the yard at the gate
  • Inspect incoming materials and flag non-acceptable items before they make it onto the yard
  • Verify that metals are correctly identified and properly classified before purchase
  • Coordinate with other scale operators to verify transactions and prevent duplicate purchases
  • Control traffic patterns in the yard - direct customers to the right unloading locations efficiently and safely
  • Ensure every customer interaction is handled in a courteous, professional, and safe manner
  • Cross-train in other positions and support teammates as needed

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

  • Strong communicator - comfortable working with all types of customers and all levels of management
  • Computer proficient - experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and ability to learn in-house systems
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

Preferred:
  • One year of customer-facing or general labor experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Scrap metal or industrial experience
  • Candidates within a 50-mile radius preferred
