Major/Essential Functions

  • Conceptualize experimental work involving, but not limited to, bomb calorimetry, differential scanning calorimeterthermal gravimetric analysis, high velocity impact ignition testing for ballistic research applications, particle size analysis, pycnometry, high speed imaging, X-ray Diffractometry, spectrometry, pyrometry, and thermography.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants working in the Combustion Lab with their projects to create a successful team and help disseminate laboratory results through publications in per-reviewed journals and presentations.
  • Engage with Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Energy (DOE) sponsors regularly on relevant active projects ongoing in the Combustion Lab.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a specialized field equivalent to a Master's degree. One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.

This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.
