Position Overview The successful candidate will set methods and criteria for executing customer repair work for various types of rotating equipment (Steam Turbines, Centrifugal Compressors, Axial Compressors, and other associated equipment). Repair work will include overhauls, general maintenance upgrades, and rerates for OEM and non‑OEM equipment. The Shop Engineer will engineer repair solutions and ensure the technical integrity of all work performed in the Repair Shop while following Elliott and industry standards. This role serves as a technical liaison for the repair shop team, field service, and field sales personnel during customer repair projects, shop modernization projects, and general engineering and drafting.Primary objective: Ensure sufficient technical oversight for mechanical repair and modernization work performed within the Houston Service Center.Required Background Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent four‑year degree.Minimum 5 years of total experience with rotary equipment such as Steam Turbines and Centrifugal Compressors, and at least 5 years working with rotor, compressor, and turbine repairs, inspections, and overhauls.3+ years experience in shop engineering or related fabrication, machining, and creation of industrial drawings.Background with repair methods such as welding, coating, assembly, and dis‑assembly for various designs and equipment.Basic exposure to metallurgy, material selection, and heat treatments.Core Responsibilities Recommend safe work practices across the plant and meet/exceed annual objectives.Provide technical assistance to shop floor on tooling and machining practices.Develop and implement continuous improvement activities, including best practices, standard work instructions, safety culture, and housekeeping.Handle non‑conformities systematically using the QMS, review and dispose of product non‑conformances.Archive engineering job‑related records timely for traceability and retrieval.Design tooling and fixtures.Ensure Quality Assurance Plans are strictly followed; provide engineering support and repair recommendations.Set methods and criteria for repair work in conjunction with the Lead Engineer.Create work packages detailing process and material specifications.Prepare repair proposals based on contract reviews and feasibility studies.Compile findings and technical data for customer reports and repair recommendations.Assist shop floor during repair execution and support Sales Engineers during quotation.Lead reverse engineering of non‑complex non‑Elliott products; support complex non‑Elliott reverse engineering.Execute service engineering assignments using standard procedures, CAD, and independent decision‑making.Liaise with other engineering departments and field service for problem solving.Prepare and approve layout and detail drawings; review technical manuals and work instructions.Review customer specifications and provide comments; assist in customer witness inspections.Apply engineering principles to develop repair recommendations for turbomachinery.Specific Knowledge Familiarity with common NDT methods (PT, MT, UT, Zygly, hardness test, PMI).Proficient with conventional metrology tools and 3D metrology fundamentals and coordinate systems.Knowledge of ISO, ASME, and API codes and regulations.Advanced understanding of standard drawing symbols, tolerances (GD&T).Advanced skills in 3D modeling and detailing technical drawings (CREO strongly desired; SolidWorks, Inventor, etc., considered).Basic AutoCAD and FEA knowledge.Understanding of turbomachinery repair processes and cost optimization.Understanding of fabrication and machining methods.Skills Strong environmental, health, and safety awareness.Fast learner of continuous improvement methods.Excellent analytical and mathematical abilities.Strong communication and decision‑making skills.Team‑leadership ability during repairs and overhauls.Independent and proactive with time management and prioritization.Computer proficiency: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Elliott Business Systems.Professional, business‑like behavior and strong written and verbal communication.Adaptability to a dynamic work environment.Differentials Turbomachinery Field Service experience.Basic knowledge of CMMs, laser trackers, 3D scanners.Familiarity with LBS and ASB processes.Vibration analysis knowledge.Travel Minimal travel required. Weekend travel may be occasionally necessary.
