Summary

Coconino Community College tutors support a diverse student population by offering free tutoring services, with subject needs varying throughout the year. We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences that reflect the diversity of CCC's students. Tutors play a key role in helping students become more independent learners, persist in their studies, and achieve their academic goals. Responsibilities include providing one-on-one and group tutoring in approved subject areas, reviewing course concepts, explaining problem-solving processes, and assisting students with specific assignments and questions. Tutors also collaborate with fellow tutors and the Tutor Coordinator to enhance their professional growth. These are part-time positions, ranging from 3 to 19 hours per week, for 32 weeks per year starting August 2026 through June 2027. The roles are non-benefit eligible and offer a compensation rate of $18.35 per hour. There will be mandatory orientation on August 20th and mandatory training on Friday September 11th and Friday September 25th @ Northern Arizona University (Time to be determined later). Failure to attend orientation/training will result in your inability to be employed for this position.

Tutors also collaborate with fellow tutors and the Tutor Coordinator to enhance their professional growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for students in person and online.
  • Recognize primary role to help students become more confident, more successful and self-directed learners.
  • Informally assesses students' learning needs. Assist students in locating and using various resources.
  • Participates in mandatory tutor orientation/trainings throughout the academic year.
  • Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students' diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of tutoring strategies.
  • Skill in interpersonal interactions.
  • Knowledge of college study skills.
  • Skill in both written and oral communication.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work in a multicultural collegial environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Documented A or B in the content area to be tutored or high school diploma and 20-30 hours of college credit and ability to provide tutoring and learning assistance in at least one subject that is in demand, or any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Recommendation from someone who can speak to your knowledge and ability to tutor specific content.

Preferred

Associate's degree or higher in a related field. Experience working with a diverse population. Ability to use various computer database applications. Knowledge of college study skills.

Part-time employees working 20 hours or more per week for at least 20 weeks within the fiscal year (July 1-June 30) are eligible to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System and receive tuition waiver benefits.
