Job Description

The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 12 universities, a comprehensive health science center, nine state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus. Salary:

$7.25 - $20.60 per hour commensurate with experience.

This is a part-time position.

Job Description Summary:

Under direct supervision from the Writing Center Coordinator, the incumbent will provide advice and resources at every stage of the writing process: Assist students formatting papers, properly citing their papers in MLA, APA, Chicago, or any other citation the instructor requires; Assist students to brainstorm ideas to enable them to begin assignments; Discuss how to formulate clear thesis statements; Clarify lesson instructions; Teach while proofreading; Clarify what plagiarism is and make sure students know how to cite in-text; Learn what the professors require, so students can comply with each particular criteria for a well-composed paper; Work closely with ADA students to enable their success; Be familiar with and have extensive experience in helping with the research process as it applies to college writing. 


Responsibilities:

-Meeting with students individually and in small groups to help students with their writing process; 
- Using guiding questions to assist students to think critically, further helping students understand how to improve their writing; 
- Guiding students through the writing process: prewriting (including brainstorming & outlining), drafting, revising, proofreading & editing; 
- Researching and developing writing and reading aids; 
- Participating and leading workshops on elements of writing; 
- Other duties as assigned. 


Education and Experience:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- One year of related experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Friendly and approachable for students, patient with good listening skills and a sense of responsibility. 

- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Preferred major: English or other Liberal Arts Degree. 
- Past mentoring or tutoring experience. 
- Use of multiple writing and citation styles (MLA, Chicago, APA, etc.) 
- Knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Google Docs.
