Position Summary
Hours Per Week: Up to 19.5 hours per week
Department: Desert Vista Campus - TRiO Educational Talent Search (ETS)
Location: Sunnyside High School, Desert View High School, and Pueblo High School
The successful candidate for this part-time position will provide mentoring and tutoring to TRiO Educational Talent Search high school students. The successful candidate will help improve participants study skills, habits, and academic progress. The ideal candidate will additionally support program participants in various aspects of students' lives and help them develop their academic, professional, and personal skills. Tutors will assist Program Coordinators in virtual or in-person workshops, events, meetings, and engage students in a collaborative learning environment. The schools that TRiO ETS provides services to are Pueblo High School, Desert View High School, Sunnyside High School, and surrounding middle schools.
Subjects include: Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing/Language Arts, and Foreign Languages. (Multiple subjects preferred)
The primary locations that this position will provide services to are: Sunnyside High School, Desert View High School, and Pueblo High School.
The work schedule for this position may include working evenings and weekends. The hourly rate is based on certification level. Most of the working hours will be in-person at the high schools with a few online (if approved by Program Coordinators). Tutors may be required to visit multiple high school and middle school campuses to provide support.
About Temporary Employment:
This position has 5 vacant positions and will establish a qualified applicant pool for part-time temporary positions. Applications will remain active for 6 months to a year and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise. Placement in the pool does not guarantee employment. The applicant pool will be refreshed annually.
Temporary applicants may be hired for specific assignments or placed in an applicant pool for future opportunities, depending on enrollment levels and business needs. If selected from this pool of applicants, candidates contacted will receive details regarding the specific assignment and will have the opportunity to confirm interest and availability.
We are seeking dedicated part-time temporary employees to join our qualified applicant pool. Selected candidates will be considered for placement as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide peer mentoring services to help students navigate their academics, professional, and personal lives
Assist students by providing instructional tutoring and assistance with basic concepts, specific problems, homework, test preparation, and the most effective use of online resources, textbooks, and instructional materials
Establish effective and cooperative relationships with diverse student and employee populations
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements/Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Proven classroom excellence (grade A or B) in the subject(s) to be tutored
Excellent communication skills (both virtual and in-person)
Tutors must complete CRLA level 1 certification within one year of employment
Additional Job Requirements:
Reliable transportation to and from multiple high schools and middle schools in the service area and to Pima Community College - Desert Vista Campus.
Access to the following technology is necessary if tutoring virtually:
Reliable and stable internet connection
Computer with webcam and microphone
Tutors must complete CRLA level 1 certification within one year of employment
Preferred:
Tutoring and/or mentoring experience with students at the secondary level
Experience in tutoring multiple subjects
Bilingual in Spanish and English
