Job Summary:
Mt. San Jacinto Community College District welcomes applications on an on-going basis for our Temporary Workforce Program (TWP) positions. We invite candidates to join the TWP (CDEC Associate Teacher) pool. Applications meeting the minimum qualifications will be stored electronically for six (6) months following verification. Qualified applications will be referred to the dean, director, and Site Supervisor, who will contact candidates for interviews as needs arise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Master Teacher in planning, supervising and implementing a specific age group program in accordance with center policies and philosophy.
- Assists the Master Teacher in providing an integrated curriculum that meets the developmental needs of individual children.
- Assists in maintaining daily records with regards to attendance, health and nutrition.
- Assists in assessing childrens needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis and apply this assessment to plan activities.
- Assists in providing a climate of respect for each childs individual personality, physical characteristics and traits, culture, language and ethnic characteristics, family structure, developmental needs and behavior.
- Assists in mealtime and snack preparation including serving and cutting food into bite-size pieces for young children and help with cleanup.
- Participates in ongoing professional development including coursework, regular staff meetings and parent meetings.
- Acts as a role model for students, parents and center visitors and assists in facilitating positive and productive relationships with families that support the development of children.
- Utilizes and promotes positive guidance techniques.
- Performs housekeeping tasks and maintains a safe, clean, orderly and attractive learning environment for children.
- Maintains classroom supplies, materials and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- The incumbent must possess thorough knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of a child development center
- Principles of child development
- Appropriate activities for children of various ages and skill levels, especially for preschool, infant and toddler age
- The incumbent must possess the skills to:
- Work effectively as a team member
- Meet schedules and timelines
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Maintain documentation and records
- Handle multiple assignments simultaneously and set priorities based on customer needs
- The incumbent must have an ability to:
- Recognize each child as an individual with specific needs
- Work with children and families from diverse backgrounds
- Care for children six weeks through five years of age
- Possess positive interaction skills in communicating with children and families with diverse backgrounds
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Child Development Permit at the Associate Teacher level or higher;
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
