The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking undergraduate students for a variety of positions, including research assistant, graders, labor monitors, and clerical assistants, and other support roles. Applicants should indicate the position(s) they are interested in when applying.
Student employees may assist faculty members with active research projects through field, laboratory, and/or other research-related activities. Additional assignments may include grading, laboratory monitoring, clerical support, and other departmental duties. Responsibilities generally are routine in nature, with limited decision-making authority, and may require working independently after training with general or minimal supervision.
Assignments may require short turnaround times and flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends. Positions are filled on an as-needed basis during the academic year and/or summer. Application to the student employee pool does not constitute an offer of employment.
Position Levels
Student Assistant 1: Ability to work under general or intermittent supervision. Duties are varied and require some independent judgment. Some college level or comparable experience may be necessary.
Student Assistant 2: Ability to work under general direction. Duties require considerable knowledge and skills such as computer, research, or translation skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making. Ability to assist faculty members with research, writing or assisting in writing technical reports; assisting in complex technical aspects of research projects.
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for student employment an applicant must:
Graders require some previous training, experience and/or knowledge in the discipline of the department in which they will be grading. Some college level or comparable research, professional or technical experience is required. Requires attention to detail and timely completion of assigned tasks, and requires effective and timely communication skills.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a part-time, temporary Student Worker pool, up to 20 hours per week while school is in session. Starting hourly rate is $10.85/hour for Student Assistant 1 and $11.34/hour for Student Assistant 2.
This is a pooled position and applications are reviewed as needed. Submission of an application does not guarantee review or a job offer. This pool is open to undergraduate students only.
