Position description

The Department of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary, part-time instructors to teach on-site and online courses in our Business Administration, Leadership, and Innovation programs.

These programs help students and working professionals build practical skills in business strategy, leadership, decision-making, entrepreneurship, analytics, global business operations, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. Courses emphasize applied learning, professional communication, data-informed decision making, and real-world business problem solving.

We seek instructors who bring substantial professional experience in areas such as:

  • applying business concepts in professional or organizational settings
  • business leadership and management
  • consulting and organizational development
  • entrepreneurship and innovation
  • business analytics and decision support
  • digital transformation and AI-enabled business strategy
  • global business operations

Instructor duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and deliver course materials aligned with program learning objectives.
  • Design assessments and engaging learning activities that support student learning and skill development.
  • Update course content periodically to reflect evolving industry practices and program feedback.
  • Communicate course expectations, learning objectives, and grading policies clearly to students.
  • Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Employ inclusive teaching practices that support diverse learners, including students with documented accommodations.
  • Evaluate student performance and assign grades based on established learning outcomes.
  • Submit final grades within university timelines and address student inquiries regarding course evaluation as needed.
  • Maintain student records in accordance with University policies.

The number of these temporary, part-time, non-tenure track, academic positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. Appointments are offered on a course-by-course basis, and appointment length is based upon course section schedule(s). Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A bachelor's degree in business, management, economics, entrepreneurship, analytics, or a related discipline, or a relevant professional credential.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in business management, leadership, consulting, entrepreneurship, analytics, innovation, global business, or a closely related field.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, management, economics, or a related discipline, or 5+ years of professional experience in business leadership, consulting, entrepreneurship, analytics, innovation, or global business
  • Professional or consulting experience in areas such as business strategy, organizational leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation management, business analytics, or AI-enabled business transformation
  • Prior teaching, training, or corporate facilitation experience
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle, or similar) or willingness to learn
