Introduction
The Maryland Department of Labor, Division of Unemployment Insurance is seeking qualified and motivated individuals for the full-time, merit position of Unemployment Insurance Professional I. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies within the division, and an eligible list of candidates will be maintained for one year after the announcementâs closing date.
This position plays a critical role in supporting Maryland residents by ensuring unemployment insurance claims are processed accurately, efficiently, and with strong commitment to customer service. The Unemployment Insurance Professional I will help employers understand and access the services and support available through the stateâs Unemployment Insurance program.
This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule of up to two (2) days per week, contingent upon the successful completion of training and meeting all applicable telework requirements in accordance with agency policy.

Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for conducting interviews with individuals applying for Unemployment Insurance benefits in order to obtain and verify information needed to process claims in accordance with established laws, policies, and procedures. The purpose of this work is to ensure accurate and timely determination of eligibility while providing high-quality, customer-focused service. This role supports the proper administration and distribution of unemployment benefits and contributes to maintaining the economic stability of the State.
POSITION DUTIES
This position duties consist of but not limited to the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Four years of experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Personnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment.
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
