    Job Description

    Position Summary

    The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking an Ultra Sound Radiology Manager to oversee the technical and clinical operations of the Diagnostic Section within the Department of Radiology. This position serves as a clinical expert in diagnostic radiology services and the utilization of specialized imaging technologies. The Health Care Services Manager will provide leadership in the delivery of high-quality patient care, support operational excellence, and participate in the strategic planning and development of diagnostic radiology services.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Benchmarks, develops, recommends, reviews, and monitors staffing models in conjunction with departmental HR Representative and /or Senior HR Leaders
    • Hires, develops and manages the performance of the clinic assistant manager and clinical staff
    • Prepares and/or assists in budget development; provides projections and recommendations
    • Manages financial and productivity data and monitor budget to meet goals. Resolves budget discrepancies
    • Identifies trends and determine QA priorities
    • Recommends QA and patient/customer satisfaction strategies
    • Develops and monitors plans to enhance patient satisfaction
    • Allocates resources to meet quality and productivity expectations
    • Researches, develops and implements best practices to improve care delivery across units; Works with other departments on implementation
    • Collaborates with medical directors from multiple disciplines regarding care and/ or service quality/ delivery
    • Researches, develops and implements best practices to improve care delivery across units
    • Assists in developing strategic plan, implementation plans with unit leaders and monitor progress
    • Researches, develops and implements best practices to improve care delivery across units
    • Coordinates communication and support collaboration among staff, medical staff, and healthcare leadership
    • Engages and collaborates with physicians to identify opportunities for improvement, program development and capital budgeting
    • Advocates for needs of unit with healthcare leaders; may collaborate with medical director of unit regarding program development, process improvements, and equipment budgets
    • Provides clinical education to develop staff competency; Oversees clinical education activities and agreements with educational institutions.

    Education Requirements

    • Completion of a CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology or
    • Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography or
    • Completion of a bachelor's degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography

    Experience Requirements

    • 3-5 years of experience in a clinical leadership/management role in Radiology
    • Knowledge of and ability to manage effective and smooth operations in Radiology department by utilizing various management principles and techniques
    • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, policies and practices for planning and administering a budget
    • Ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment

    Certification Requirements

    • Requires registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS). Requires registration in Abdomen.

    Desirable Qualifications

    • Experience using multiple software applications including Microsoft office suite, Epic or other electronic medical records systems
    • Knowledge of university policies, procedures and systems
    • Considerable experience (3-5 years) working as an imaging technologist (eg: RT, RDMS)
    • Registration in two or more specialty areas
