Position Summary: Performs ultrasound studies as ordered by healthcare provider. Interprets diagnostic scans, documents. Assists patients by escorting to and from exam rooms and explaining procedures.

Critical Tasks:

  • Performs ultrasound studies while observing patients.
  • Connects clinical history, relevant clinical data, lab tests, and other ancillary diagnostic exams to obtain ultrasound exams of optimal value.
  • Analyzes diagnostic scans for quality as appropriate.
  • Assists patients to and from exam room or table.
  • Prepares patients for examination by positioning patients to ensure optimal results and explains procedure(s) and study purposes.
  • Reviews current and prior orders and images, checking for correlation between patients' chief complaints and the studies ordered.
  • Processes images and troubleshoots issues with Ultrasound machine and PACS system.
  • Maintains records and files to ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Manages stock and inventory levels of supplies for procedures according to established standards.
  • Participates in performance and quality improvement initiatives and documents quality control activities.
  • Performs other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a closely related field of study. Will also accept comparable certificate from sonography program issued before 1999.
  • 5 years of previous experience in Ultrasound, including clinical rotation.
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification.
  • Current and continuing BLS training and certifications.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
