Job Summary

• The sonographer performs Ultrasound procedures according to established protocol to obtain diagnostic information as ordered by a licensed physician or their designated health care provider.
• The Sonographer provides information to the patient about the purpose of the ultrasound procedure and responds to the patient''s questions and concerns.
• The Sonographer recognizes the patient''s individuality and provides quality care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner using professional and ethical judgment.
• The diagnostic medical sonographer maintains continued competence through lifelong learning, which includes continuing education, acquisition of specialty specific credentials, and recredentialing.
• The diagnostic sonographer working in the department of Radiology is required to perform diverse imaging across the spectrum of sonography.

Certification and Licensure

• BLS Certification
• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) (OB or AB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) RT(S)
• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) (RVT) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) RT(VS) is obtained within 18 months of hire
