Job Summary
The Ultrasound Technician, or Sonographer, is responsible for using ultrasound equipment to help visualize internal anatomy functions. Their duties include calibrating and manipulating ultrasound equipment to conduct appointments, taking pictures or videos of potential abnormalities and discreetly notifying medical personnel if they identify something concerning
Essential Functions
- Understands and adheres to Burke Rehabilitation Radiology performance standards, policies and behaviors
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images
- Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
- Analyses; sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician
- Coordinates work schedule with Radiology Supervisor to assure workload coverage
- Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer’s care
- Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department which includes patient schedule
- Maintains a daily log of patients seen/completes exams
- Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals
- Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician
- Maintains clean equipment and reports equipment failures to the Radiology Supervisor
- Practices Standard Precautions. Follows regulations, policies and guidelines on the prevention of infections; does not eat or drink in patient care areas.
- Maintains confidentiality of information; abides by HIPAA regulations.
- Maintains a professional image and follows Hospital’s policy on uniforms; consistently wears hospital ID.
- Demonstrates reliable, on-time attendance, which is an essential function of all jobs at Burke.
- Completes mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor) within deadline.
- Personally adheres to Burke C.A.R.E.S. philosophy by demonstrating compassion, accountability, respect and exceeding expectations through service excellence.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience required in a hospital based setting required
- Continuing education required to maintain certification
- Self-motivated & directed with regard to increasing level of understanding and knowledge.
- Effective oral and written professional communications skills.
- Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors at all times.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
- ARDMS - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography required
- BLS - American Heart Association required
